Joseph’s Role: Project Director for Lincoln Center Development Project - Project Management and Owner’s Representation responsibilities through design into construction from demolition through foundations and back up to grade.
Project Challenges: Alice Tully Hall was underutilized, difficult to find and lacking in public lobby space. Its acoustics were good but not great. The Juilliard School, Alice Tully Hall and the WNET Studios at Lincoln Center share the same building and certificate of occupancy. Balancing the needs and wants of these separate Clients in one building with one set of construction documents was a challenge successfully met. Each Client had it’s own schedule - one based on a school calendar, one based on a performance calendar and one based on a broadcast calendar. Acoustic isolation and room acoustic requirements were paramount including isolation from the adjacent subway tracks. The cantilevered Juilliard structure above the three-story Tully Outer Lobby which supports both the cable-structure supported glazing system of the Lobby and the Juilliard glass facade facing Broadway - both first of their kind systems - required fine tuning with the patience of a piano tuner.

Over the years it had slowly become tired and faded and had not kept up with the times. It’s NYC and Federal Landmark status required that special attention be paid to every detail of its restoration. Cablevision understood this mission and the restoration became a labor of love. While restoring all of the original finishes, fixtures and furniture the original mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were brought up to the requirements of the 21st century including a state-of-the-art high definition broadcasting system.
